Karuna - Indian childrenFormed by Western Buddhists in 1980 as Aid for India, Karuna works with India’s oppressed Dalit com­munity and other mar­gin­al­ised groups across South Asia

Why Karuna?

Karuna’s name is a Sanskrit word that broadly means to take com­pas­sion­ate action to dimin­ish the suf­fer­ing of oth­ers. Seeing fun­drais­ing as a spir­itual prac­tice, they are cur­rently seek­ing people to give their time in 2011 to join their appeals work.

Karuna is the Triratna Buddhist Community’s most well known char­it­able arm but isn’t the only one we are involved with.

Local order mem­ber Shakyajata works with Young Indian Futures in India, and here in the UK she is rais­ing funds for them and shar­ing news of their work — the next event at our Centre is October’s Indian-themed Celebration — every­one is welcome
