Description:

Exploring and meditating, and looking at a paper by Subhuti on Mindfulness and the Mind

Subhuti looks at what mindfulness is and how we practise it, beginning by asking what is mind. He talks about the five constants that make up a mind moment:

  • contact
  • feeling
  • Interpretation
  • will
  • attention

He then shows how these constants relate to karma-vipaka and then to mindfulness, which he talks about in terms of:

  • Smrti — attentiveness
  • Samprajanya — awareness
  • Apramada — vigilance

Our own experience

If all this sounds a bit heady, we will be trying to see how we can practise this, identifying in our own experience what these things are and how they can help us on the spiritual path.
