Carers are the unsung heroes
Taking care of others can mean we consistently put another before ourselves, so it is all too easy to burn out
We need to re-charge our batteries from time to time and connect with others who share our situation
Our events are for carers living in the Manchester area
Retreats
A retreat weekend gives carers the opportunity to try out activities like meditation and relaxation in a rural setting. The aim is to give you a break to unwind. Priority will be given to current carers who have not received a break from their caring role within the last six months.
The weekends are coordinated between the Manchester Carers Forum (MCF) and the Manchester Buddhist Centre. Workshops are led by professional practitioners, teachers and volunteers from the Buddhist Centre. The food is vegetarian and is always tasty!
Chi Kung — gentle exercise
![]()
Chi kung exercises are an ancient Chinese form of movement exercise that promotes the flow of chi (vital energy) through the body. You will be led through gentle exercises for stretching the body, mobilising the joints and meditation with the teacher, Sattvadhika.
The benefits are wide ranging, increasing your sense of balance, reducing anxiety and helping concentration.
“I feel it is very good for my arthritis and also for my breathing” (carer)
“Sattvadhika! She’s great and always helpful and kind to us all. The exercise is within my capabilities so I feel I’ve done well!” (carer)
