History

Founded in 1977, Manchester Buddhist Centre has taught the essential principles of meditation and Buddhism to thousands of Mancunians. In July 1996, we moved from Chorlton to Turner Street. Once a derelict Victorian warehouse, it is now a place of simplicity and beauty.

Vision

The ex-warehouse was chosen in the up-and-coming cultural northern quarter to be accessible to more people. It was designed to maintain many of the original historical features like the brickwork, staircase and huge windows. The conversion was sensitively done, using recycled materials wherever possible, to add character and beauty. During the conversion project, which was mainly carried out by volunteers, the building became a symbol for internal transformation, as the externals were stripped back and made anew.
