How we run the Buddhist Centre
The Buddhist Centre is a charity and we rely on the support of people who use the building
For more information about the charity please see the Manchester Buddhist Centre entry on the Charity Commission website
Mission Statement
The advancement of the Buddhist religion in particular:
(i) To encourage members and others to live in accordance with the teachings of the Buddha.
(ii) To support ordained members of the Western Buddhist Order and other duly ordained Buddhists at the discretion of the Council of Manchester Buddhist Centre.
(iii) To maintain close communication with and work under the guidance of The Western Buddhist Order and in co-operation with other groups with the same objects.
(iv) To use applications of the Buddha’s teaching to promote the health and well-being of all
Part of the FWBO
The FWBO stands for the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order, the Buddhist movement which the Manchester Buddhist Centre is part of. Each Buddhist Centre in the FWBO is financially and legally independent.
Giving
We survive on donations and contributions. We have a large group of volunteers who support us by working in a variety of ways.
Moving into the City
Previously the Buddhist centre was housed in a semi-detached house in Chorlton, south Manchester.
When the idea of a building in the city centre came up, it was so that more people could access and benefit from the Buddha’s teachings. Being in the heart of Manchester with the many thousands of people in the area, we believe we can best serve the people of Greater Manchester
