How we run the Buddhist Centre
The Buddhist Centre is a charity and we rely on the support of people who use the building
For more information about the charity please see the Manchester Buddhist Centre entry on the Charity Commission website
Mission Statement
The advancement of the Buddhist religion, in particular:
- (i) To encourage members and others to live in accordance with the teachings of the Buddha
- (ii) To support ordained members of the Triratna Buddhist Order and other duly ordained Buddhists at the discretion of the Council of Manchester Buddhist Centre
- (iii) To maintain close communication with, and work under the guidance of, the Triratna Buddhist Order and in co-operation with other groups with the same objects
- (iv) To use applications of the Buddha’s teaching to promote the health and well-being of all
Part of the Triratna Buddhist Community
Manchester Buddhist Centre is part of the Triratna Buddhist Community, formerly the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order or FWBO.
Each Buddhist Centre in the Triratna Buddhist Community is financially and legally independent.
Giving
We survive on donations and contributions. We have a large group of volunteers who support us by working in a variety of ways.
Moving into the City
Previously the Buddhist centre was housed in a semi-detached house in Chorlton, south Manchester.
Moving to the city centre meant that more people could access and benefit from the Buddha’s teachings. Being in the heart of Manchester we believe we can best serve the people of Greater Manchester
Our beautiful building
We welcome visitors to our historic building and have been awarded the North West Multi-Faith Tourism Association’s Marque of Excellence for our outstanding welcome to visitors, tourists, and people new to the Centre.
Our receptionist can give you information about the building’s restoration and the many beautiful artworks, including the striking ironwork by Sahaja
