Manchester Buddhist Centre - Finance, Funding and Giving

How is the Centre financed?

The Manchester Buddhist Centre is entirely self-funded. Most of the people teaching and supporting courses and day events give their time freely. We charge for introductory courses and day and weekend events to help cover the Centre's running costs, but even this does not cover them all. We rely on rents from some businesses based in the Centre, but also on the generosity of individuals who want to contribute financially and practically. This generosity makes it possible for anyone to easily access meditation and the teachings of the Buddha. Many people enjoy the benefits of this beautiful and peaceful place.Through giving, we learn to transcend ourselves and respond to the needs of others.

Giving to the Centre

If you value what is offered, you will hopefully be inspired to help us to offer that gift to others. The most obvious form of dana, or generosity, is to give money through donations, both by putting money in the yellow dana bowls and through standing orders, Gift Aid, CAF cheque, and Charitycard schemes. However, dana can also take the form of giving time, skills, goods, friendliness; there are so many things that one can give!

"The perfection of generosity is said to be the thought to give all beings everything". Shantideva, the eighth century Buddhist master.

Giving Regularly

If you want to help the Manchester Buddhist Centre cover its many running costs by giving regularly please download the Gift Aid Declaration and Bankers Order Form (in pdf format - if you don't have the free Adobe reader you can get it from Adobe), print it out, fill it in and bring it in or send to the Manchester Buddhist Centre.

Gift Aid Declaration - for regular as well as one-off donations by a tax payer
If you are a tax payer and fill in the Gift Aid declaration as well as the standing order form, for every pound you donate the government gives us 28p. This regular way of giving lasts exactly as long as you like. You can cancel it at any time.

Under the same scheme you can also give one-off donations, either on their own or in addition to regular donations. If you regularly donate money into the dana bowls, we can claim the tax back on them if you fill in a Gift Aid form the first time, and then put future donations in an envelope with your name on.

Banker’s Order - regular donations
If you don’t pay tax but still wish to make a regular donation, please fill in the banker’s order only.
